Letters to the Editor -
The Big Game has come and gone, the game between Cal and Stanford. We won't dwell on the outcome of the game, but just know that it was played on one of the lovliest autumn days that anyone could ever ask for. If you were lucky enough to spend the afternoon in Strawberry Canyon -- no matter if your blood runs Blue & Gold, or distinctly Cardinal in color -- you were a winner. So, in honor of (the only) Big Game, recent interviews with U.C. Berkeley's Richard Newton and Stanford's John Hennesy are now both available here on EDA Confidential. The interview with Richard Newton took place in the Fall of 2003, and the interview with John Hennessy took place just this past Spring. If you take time to read them, you'll see that between Newton & Hennessy, you've respectively got Cal & Stanford's biggest fans!
You've saturated my emotions with your off the record in this week's issue. No wonder I'm so exhausted and wrung out after all that's transpired -- and I wasn't even at all those events on the West Coast! Signed, Anon
Hi, ESNUG readers, Yup, it's that time again. I'm doing the annual DAC Trip Report and I'd greatly appreciate it, if you took 10 minutes to write what you honestly think about the EDA tools that you use in your job. Please, tell it as it really is! Thanks. John Cooley
Peggy, Tets' recipes look really, really good. Thanks! Anon

Peggy, This one was good, way out there like Joe. Regards, Anon
Hi Peggy, Good for Joe Costello [for being named the Kaufmann Award Winner.]! He surely did have an impact on EDA, and that time period was certainly one to remember. I joined Cadence when they were still small enough that Joe was part of the interview process, and he made an impression from day one, and continued to do so during my 5 years at Cadence. Joe has always had an ability to listen first then talk, and to get people to laugh while they focused on the issues at hand. His whole outlook was incredibly positive and his talks to all the employees as a group were always inspiring. He really deserves recognition for it, even now. I wonder if this will change the focus of the award moving forward -- from the unrecognized engineer to the visible industry leaders. Regards, Gloria Nichols
Peggy, Thanks for the notice [that the next issue of EDA Confidential has been posted]. I would like to link to our website, but the way you have organized your site makes this difficult. I have no idea how to point to a specific article. You might want to talk to a web guru to see how to reorganize your site and give each article a specific address or at least give each month's news listing a specific address. That way I could point to www.aycinena.com/news/nov2004 I would think that you would want as many people as possible to link to your site to improve your exposure and to improve your search engine ranking. Regards, Anon
Hi Anon, To link to anything use: www.aycinena.com/index/index2/index3/archive/article name.htmlYou can find the article name by going to the Archive on the site, scrolling down, finding the article, clicking on it, and then looking at the top to find the specific file name. My name is on anything I have written. And that's true also for Freddy Santamaria's articles, and for the recipes from the people who sent them. If it's news -- People, Places, Things -- I don't put my name on it. That's because we all know that 75 to 80 percent of the words there, were written by the folks in PR -- who by the say, get absolutely no attribution for their writing. So, I don't put my name on that stuff, or imprint it with a copyright. That would be nonsense and quite dishonest. I'm not really looking for exposure and/or ranking right now. I'm looking at the concept of open source publishing in a community -- a place where people can talk and there are no commercial ties that inhibit that communication. John Cooley also does this for a far larger audience, although his is a commercial site with ads sold into by the CMP sales staff. Nonetheless, Cooley is about communication and community, and for that I think the readers owe him a big Thank You. I may look to get sponsors for www.aycinena.com at some future date, but right now I'm enjoying the fresh air that surrounds my efforts here. I'm so happy to have people reading and thinking about things. Of course, they don't need me to make that happen, so perhaps it's better stated that I'm happy to have people reading my ideas about their ideas, and then telling me their ideas about my ideas. It's pretty much about communication and discourse right now, and not about the ranking thing. As you know, there are a lot of people out there who are, or have been, really bruised and battered in the publishing industry -- people who have had to sell their souls just to show up for work every day and put out copy that satisfies advertisers rather than their own editorial good judgement. I'm enjoying this stretch of days here where I'm not having to do that. Hope all is well with you. Best, Peggy
Peggy, I really like the feel of what you are doing. I agree that the publishing industry is being corrupted by the squeeze for dollars. EE Times seems to be able to stay away from the pressure and do real reporting. That’s what you are doing with a nice human element thrown in. [However], linking to articles is a win-win. It makes smaller companies look more important and gives you more visibility to grow your readership. Keep up the good work. Regards, Anon
Dear Friend, I got your contact during my search on the Internet. My name is Mr. Mensah Otabil. I am the manager of the International Commercial Bank Ghana, First Light Branch. I am a Ghanaian married with two kids. I am writing to solicit your assistance in the transfer of US$ 3,550.000.00. This fund is the excess of what my branch in which I am the manger made as profit during the last year. I have already submitted an approved End of the Year report for the year 2003 to my Head Office here in Accra and they will never know of this Excess. I have since then, placed this amount of US$ 3,550.000.00 on a SUSPENCE ACCOUNT without a beneficiary. As an officer of the bank, I cannot be directly connected to this money, thus I am impelled to request for your assistance to receive this money into your bank account. I intend to part 30% of this fund to you while 70% shall be for me. I do need to stress that there are practically no risk involved in this. It's going to be a bank-to-bank transfer. All I need from you is to stand as the original depositor of this fund. If you accept this offer, I will appreciate your timely response. With regards, Mensah Otabil
